When I launched Beyond Management™️ Web -Series, I knew the conversations would be real, raw, and unexpected. But I didn’t know how unexpected… until I asked a veterinarian:
“What’s the most memorable team-building exercise you’ve ever done?”
”Without blinking, he said: “Scooping fecal eggs from a sheep’s butt.”(Pause for internal screaming. And yes, that was the PG version, ha!)But just when I thought the conversation couldn’t get any wilder, it got deeper.
I asked him to tell me about a leader or manager who either built him up or broke him down.
And that’s when it shifted.
No hesitation.
No sugarcoating.
He spoke about a professor who was tough, the kind that doesn’t hand out gold stars for showing up.
This professor called him out, challenged him, and held him to a standard that felt uncomfortable. But underneath the critique was something powerful: belief.
That professor saw potential and refused to let him settle for average.
Here's the thing: As humans, we carry leadership with us, whether it lifted us or left us wounded. We remember who made us feel seen. We also remember who made us feel small. That’s the weight of leadership. That’s the power of influence.
3 Takeaways from Episode 2:
- The best leaders challenge us, not to break us, but because they see what we can become.
- Growth is uncomfortable. But comfort never changed anyone.
- Being remembered isn’t about being liked, it’s about being impactful. Did you speak truth? Did you make someone feel worthy, capable, empowered?
People may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.
Leadership isn’t about a title. It’s about emotional imprint. This episode reminded me why I created Beyond Management™️ Web-Series in the first place. Because so many people are navigating managers who torment, others who retain, and a few who truly attract and build.
We need more leaders who understand their influence, who lead with both accountability and humanity.
